The IMPACT Tasty Team is a new healthy eating initiative aimed at primary age pupils and their parents in Crawley and Mid Sussex. Launched in January 2008 the project will help pupils and parents develop their knowledge of healthier diets, increase their ability to prepare healthier meals, equip them with the skills to grow their own fruit and vegetables and improve their access to fresh/healthy produce.
The project will be run by local charity, IMPACT Foundation which is based in Haywards Heath. At participating schools IMPACT will run a series of cook and eat sessions with pupils and parents, stage weekly sales of low-cost but high-quality fruit and vegetables, and also run regular home gardening sessions through which the pupils and parents will learn how to successfully grow fruit and vegetables themselves.
IMPACT are looking for volunteers to help implement the different project activities so if you are a knowledgeable gardener, a keen cook or simply someone with an interest in healthy eating then why not see how you can become involved? The various volunteer roles available are very flexible with each volunteer giving only of the time that they wish. All expenses are paid and training is provided. To find out more please contact either Lucinda or Simon on 01444 457080. No previous experience is necessary.
The Tasty Team characters represent the 3 different initiatives that are staged under the project. By continually staging the 3 different activities throughout the school year IMPACT are confident that the healthy eating message will be continually reinforced amongst the pupils and parents and they will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to consume a healthy diet for the rest of their lives. It is sure to be a fun and interesting project for those involved so why not be part of the Tasty Team yourself!
